Types of Carpet Cleaning

2. Dry Carpet Cleaning

This approach uses minimal or no water, making it ideal for carpets that can’t tolerate moisture.
It typically involves applying a dry compound or powder, which binds to dirt and stains as it sits on the carpet.
After allowing time for absorption, the material is vacuumed away, taking the grime with it.
As there’s no water involved, carpets can be used again almost immediately after cleaning.
It’s a convenient, fast-drying option particularly suited to delicate materials.

3. Bonnet Cleaning

This surface-cleaning method uses a rotating machine fitted with an absorbent bonnet pad.
The pad is soaked in a cleaning solution and spun across the carpet to lift dirt from the surface.
While it freshens up appearance quickly, it doesn’t clean deep into the fibres.
Commonly used in commercial spaces for interim maintenance, it offers a fast and visible improvement.
However, it’s more of a cosmetic solution than a deep-cleaning one.

4. Encapsulation Cleaning

This modern method involves spraying a low-moisture cleaning solution that crystallizes around dirt particles.
As the solution dries, it forms brittle crystals that encapsulate soil and debris.
These crystals are then vacuumed away, leaving the carpet clean and residue-free.
It dries quickly and is ideal for commercial use where minimal downtime is essential.
Encapsulation is popular for its efficiency and low moisture use.

5. Carpet Shampooing

An older but still occasionally used method, shampooing involves applying a foamy detergent with a rotating brush.
The mechanical action helps agitate the carpet fibres and lift visible dirt and stains.
After drying, the foam residues are vacuumed up.
While it provides a surface-level clean, it may leave behind residue and isn’t as effective at removing deeply embedded dirt.
It's less common today due to the rise of more advanced and efficient techniques.
